This is a seminar type graduate course on machine perception and particularly computer vision. A major objective in computer vision is the extraction of information about real world scenes or objects from images (typically we extract 3D geometry from 2D images). Applications of computer vision include medical imaging, industrial machine vision, virtualized reality, autonomous robot navigation and hand-eye coordination, biometric authentication, surveillance and tracking, to name a few. We will have class lectures and discussions. Students will work with the textbook and papers from the literature. Topics include image formation, geometric and photometric camera models, camera noise (models and dealing with image noise), feature extraction, camera calibration, multiple-view geometry, 3D shape extraction, object recognition, and applications of computer vision. (Note that Hofstra has IEEE Computer, ACM and Science Direct digital libraries, as well as the International Journal of Computer Vision, all of which can be accessed online).
Computer Graphics: CSC171A/CSC269 Computer Graphics. Prerequisites: good programming in C/C++, data structures and algorithms, rudimentary linear algebra
Algorithms CSC120/CSC204: Check the BBoard site for the class
