个人简介
I work in the area of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW). My work has been presented, and awarded, in major international conferences and journals. I have been involved in national and EU-funded projects, and worked on a variety of topics, including: nomadic practices in collaborative work settings and informal learning contexts, interactive performance, grassroots movements and civic initiatives.
My work is characterized by a combination of social theory, and empirical investigation of technology use and design. I am particularly interested in the situated, socio-cultural practices emerging from technology use, the processes whereby people appropriate digital artefacts in their everyday lives, and how cultural values emerge through repeated interactions and encounters with technology. Methodologically, my work draws on qualitative and ethnographic methods, and I am intrigued by the complex relationships between ethnography and design practices, and how they mutually inform each other.
I have developed a place-centred framework to analyse how nomadic practices are mediated by mobile technology. I see place as a socio-cultural construct, and this orientation to place and localities has also been paramount in my latest work on interactive performance and civic engagement. Moving between phenomenological and more political theorizations of place, this focus has shaped my perspective on users of technology as reflective actors, able to make sense of themselves and the situations they are engaged with – being it a work context, a mobile audio drama, or a performance meant to trigger engagement in socio-political issues about urban spaces.
