Present status of inland fisheries and its linkage to ecosystem health and human wellbeing in North Central of Vietnam

•Fish biodiversity supports local food provisioning, income and cultural services.•Higher fish yields and food services recorded in wet seasons.•Fishers reported a decline in fish yields and body size during 2015–2020.•Fishery service declines were primarily driven by overexploitation using unsustainable methods.•Dam operation was also responsible for habitat deterioration and reduced services in headwaters.
