SIGOc - A Smart Campus Platform to Improve Public Safety.

This paper describes how a public university in Brazil has been implementing technological systems in the context of public safety and IoT to transform itself into a smart campus. It provides an analysis of a public safety system that uses community engagement as a mean to improve those matters. Two variants of the same system are presented and compared. Differently from the first one, the second one also integrates with many IoT devices which allows detecting the temperature of classrooms, number of students, among other measurements which are stored using FIWARE components. All this information allows improving the ability of supervisors to quickly understand emergency conditions, such as fire events, terrorism attacks, etc. Stress test results showed that the second variant has an advantage concerning response times and response error percentage. Furthermore, adopting FIWARE components made the second version more maintainable, adoptable, consistent.
