Consumer viewpoint on a new kind of energy market

•Electricity consumers have a key role in future scenarios of the energy domain actors.•The consumer study revealed the viewpoint of energy consumers regarding the identified future goals and planned scenarios of energy domain actors.•Almost half of the respondents would be willing to allow a third party to control their devices in order to achieve the benefits.•The energy consumers are also interested in environmental issues and want to be part of the solutions aiming to fight against climate change.
