Investigation of Na2Mo1-xWxO4 and Ce3+-Doped Na3Mo1-xWxO4F as Phosphor Materials

A study of the effect of substituting dopant amounts of Ce3+ for Na+ into the self-activating oxyfluoride (NaMoO4F)-M-3 according to Na-3-3aCeaMoO4F ( 0 <= a <= 0.25) showed the optimum intensity of photoluminescent output is achieved for a = 0.05 yielding maximum excitation lambda ex = 216 nm and emission lambda em = 450 nm. It was also shown that the known oxide phases Na2WO4 and Na2MoO4 with spinel structure readily form an isostructural solid solution with general formula Na2Mo1-xWxO4 ( 0 <= x <= 1). Similar to the oxyfluorides, these oxide materials also display self-activating photoluminescence with excitation lambda ex = 200 nm and emission.lambda em = 446.5 nm and optimum intensity of photoluminescence observed for the tungstate Na2WO4.
